Frequently Asked Questions

PERSONAL HEALTH SCREENING AND TREATMENTS

What happens during a health screening?

Health screening with the MSAS System simply involves sitting in a chair and holding a brass rod connected to a test instrument, in one hand. The practitioner will gently press a small probe onto specific points (known as acupuncture points) on the other hand or foot. The test unit records the body's response at each point. You only feel the sensation of the probe being applied to your skin. A printed report of the results is produced at the end of the test. There is no waiting for results.

And how long does this take?

It will take between one and two hours depending on the screening.

Do I need to give blood?

Absolutely not. The beauty of this screening is that it is not invasive.

What do the results tell me?

The results are produced immediately as the test is completed. Depending on the test carried out, the results will clearly indicate nutrient deficiencies, hormone imbalances, organ imbalances, food intolerances or toxins present. We will explain the results and make treatment recommendations. You will be given a copy of the printed report to take away.

How often will I need to be screened?

Usually it is recommended every one or two months if you are recovering from an ailment and every six to twelve months for a general check up.

Do I need to be ill in order to benefit from health screening?

No. By monitoring your health status any weakness can be found and acted upon before symptoms appear. We use a holistic approach and believe the body heals itself. By ensuring your nutrient levels are balanced and you are avoiding intolerant foods, the body has the best chance of maintaining and promoting health, fitness and well-being.

Is it age dependant?

Any one of any age can be screened. We have worked with everyone from young weaned babies to people over 90 years.

If I have bad arthritis or eczema in my hands can I still be screened?

If your hands or feet cannot be probed successfully for any reason a third person, known as a surrogate, can be used. Whatever your condition we will be able to get readings and results.

Is there anything I need to do before my screening?

All we ask is that you refrain from applying oils and lotions on your hands and feet on the day of your screening. These can reduce the sensitivity of the instrument. Otherwise drink 1 ½ litres of water per day for a couple of days prior to a screening.

THE MSAS SYSTEM

This sounds fantastic but how does this instrument work?

A machine called the Meridian Stress Assessment System (MSAS) performs the health assessment. It combines modern electronic technology and ancient Eastern medicine.

In the 1950's Dr R Voll discovered that acupuncture points, traditionally used by acupuncturists for treatments, could also be used to assess an individual's state of health. Through many thousands of screenings he found that particular points were associated with particular organs and health conditions.

The MSAS System is a highly developed version of Dr Voll's original instrument which monitors the body's energetic response to various substances and tests through a process called biofeedback.

Is it scientifically proven?

The original concepts of Electro Dermal Screening (EDS) as the principle behind the MSAS System is known, was developed in the 1950's. Since then numerous technical studies, tests and research papers have been produced, verifying the effectiveness of the process. There are many papers on the complex physics and electrical equivalents of EDS. The manufacturers website, Biomeridian, has extensive papers available on it.

The MSAS System is also registered with the Federal Drug Administration in America. One of the biggest considerations is the many hundreds of practitioners around the world who have achieved considerable success using this equipment.

Will it show my allergies?

The results from the MSAS health screening clearly identify any foods that should be avoided for the time being. These are known as food intolerances and are basically substances the body would prefer not to have at the moment. By eating these foods the body's energy is directed to 'neutralising' them rather than digesting them and this can tend to lead to long-term health problems.

People are often unaware of their food intolerances as the symptoms are very mild (initially at least) and happen quite some time after eating. It's our experience that addressing food intolerances is a very important part of dealing with a wide range of health issues - anything from Irritable bowel to fatigue, migraine to hyperactivity.

An allergy on the other hand is a fast acting immune system reaction to very specific foods and tends to cause rapid, severe symptoms. These can only be reliably detected trough a prick or RAST test and not through the MSAS system.

What are your charges?

Charges start from £45 for a vitamin and mineral screening. See Price guide for full details of our services and charges?

Is the service confidential?

Our service is fully confidential. The therapist is medically qualified and bound by ethical confidentially codes of conduct.

TREATMENTS

What are the treatments?

Biotech offers a range of holistic treatments. Depending on the results of your screening you may be recommended one or a combination of: nutritional supplements, dietary changes, homeopathic remedies, herbal remedies, detoxification programs, lymphatic drainage, life style changes or referral to another therapist.

How long will it take before I am better?

Most people notice changes to their health and well being after a couple of weeks from the beginning of treatments. However everyone is an individual and will experience illnesses differently and respond to treatments differently. Some people recover very quickly, others take longer. In general the more chronic your problems the longer recovery will take.

Will I have to change my diet and give up chocolate and coffee?

Maybe, but not forever, the food intolerance and nutrition tests will give a good indicator as to how suitable your diet is to you. It may be that you have to give up some foods and eat more of others. There are substitutes for most foods and these will be discussed with you.

The payoff for adopting a diet that suits your body can be very beneficial. By keeping to dietary recommendations your body can rebalance itself and accelerate the recovery process. In this way you should soon be able to return to eating most foods and experience better health. Often you will find that your taste changes as your body returns to better health.

What supplements will be recommended?

Professional high-grade herbal remedies, homeopathic remedies and dietary supplements from various suppliers sourced as excellent, reliable and good value products.

When will I be given homeopathic remedies?

Homeopathic remedies will only be recommended when you have had a full body screening and the energetic state of your internal organs has been assessed. These remedies are very potent so we need to have a full picture of your health before recommending them.
